I help you make college admissions a clear, well-organized process… and even enjoy it! Yes, it can be done!
I work with families locally (Whatcom County, WA), and virtually with families from all over the country who are about to navigate the confusing maze of college admissions.
Being a bit of an organization geek (who loves to read and research), I use my natural inclinations to take a process that can be overwhelming and anxiety-provoking and help make it structured, enlightening, and far less stressful than it turns out to be for many families (with a great return on investment for almost every family!)
Being a parent of two children, both recent college graduates, with one in graduate school, helps me understand the issues that students and parents face during high school and college years.
I love that the work I do helps students open doors to possibilities they may not have realized were options.
Hi
there!
And I'm a mom...
Hi there!
1. College shouldn’t bankrupt your family...
2. College choices should be based on self-exploration & a solid understanding of your options...
3. College fit and affordability trumps perceived status...
4. University brand name does not determine future success.
Helping students find great fit colleges, including hidden gem schools they’ve never heard of, that are a great match academically, socially, and geographically.
Helping families understand their financial fit and find schools that are affordable for their family.
Freeing students to live their high school lives without constant anxiety about the college search and application process.
Helping young people head to the future with enthusiasm and confidence.
Success is...
... (no extra essays or tedious scholarship search required!)
I've made knowing the college financial aid process and helping families strategize for affordability a priority.
The students I worked with last season were awarded an average of $38,000 PER YEAR (that's $152,000 over the 4 years of college) in college scholarships, reducing sticker prices substantially.
There are two prices for college that families pay:
1. A price for families that have a financial game plan, and...
2. A higher price for those who do not.
After a successful professional career & time as a stay-at-home mom, I took my desire to be of service to youth & my love of reading, research, & organization to create a college counseling practice.
Before college counseling I served as the Director of Program Development & Community Benefits at the St. Joseph Health System of Orange, was the founding Executive Director of the Coalition of Orange County Community Health Centers, and the founder & principal consultant for a nonprofit technical assistance provider, designing & facilitating inclusive strategic planning efforts for organizations, cities & counties across California.
Professional background
I have a BA in Counseling Psychology and an MA in Organization Development.
I also earned a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA Extension Program.
I offer career exploration services as a Strong Interest Inventory Certified Practitioner.
Member of HECA (Higher Education Consultants Association), NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling), SACC (Seattle Area College Counselors), and PNACAC (Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling).
Let's chat!
I'm happy to answer all your questions about how we might work together.
I love reading, talking with my kids, and hanging with my husband - with whom I love to travel - stopping to visit colleges everywhere we go.
I’m a mom of two kids, both already college graduates - now Willow & Pebbles keep me company all day long.
My newest hobby is knitting (blankets - full of mistakes) and I try to be a regular yoga class attendee!
I love walking, talking, reading, and drinking coffee with friends (or alone!).
And I've read all these books, so you don't have to!
